Music is a form of creative expression that is both auditory and narrative. It portrays a story, feeling, or emotion using notes. The form music takes varies widely, with differences across time and culture. Music is only limited by our imagination and willingness to explore. It is language expressed through rhythm and tone.
If you're looking for a new creative venture, music is a great medium to explore. There is a musical form for anyone depending on your interests and budget. If you haven't picked up an instrument before, there is no substitute for giving it a try and seeing how it feels. If that seems daunting, then listen to music until you feel inspired enough to give it a try.
I won't spend time talking about the hundreds of instruments out there, but will encourage you to take the time you need to explore what is available. The difficulty and level of control you have will largely depend on which music interest you pursue. There are also ways to make music without having to play an instrument - there are software programs where you can make songs or mix tracks.
